For any foreign readers -- and those of us in the relatively less corrupt and badly-run of the United States (which is, for nearly all of us, "my state," and, in that, we are wrong) -- please know that this is only a very slight exaggeration; there are indeed places where one must run in a contested, politicized election to get the job of coroner.
I'm shuddering right now.
